The power of your choice is in your heart.

We are either teaching one another to fear, hate and discriminate each other or we are teaching acceptance, forgiveness and love for one another. Either way, the power of choice is ours to choose.

Who do we accept and listen to in life?

The labels and judgments that we place upon another person do not make us better people.  In fact, that act has quite the opposite effect and limits our own abilities.  Make time to listen and understand one another.  Many problems and misunderstandings can be prevented just by listening with an open heart and mind.

Why each day should be Earth Day.

There is only one Earth.

“Only when the last tree has died, and the last river has been poisoned, and the last fish has been caught, will we realize that we can’t eat money.” ~Cree Proverb

We are failing each other.

This morning, I had just finished reading “Nurturing Healing Love” by Scarlett Lewis.  Her son was killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.  I looked at the headline news to read that a teenager had gone on a stabbing spree at his high school in Pittsburgh.  We are living in a culture of anger, hate and violence that we have contributed to.  We have to accept that we are responsible for the problems at hand and that we are in this boat together.  When I see children killing children, soldiers killing soldiers, people killing people over nothing more than angry thoughts, I am deeply saddens and feel a sense of failure.  The government cannot save us from our angry thoughts.  How many people must die before we value each other and life itself?

Nobody should live with angry thoughts and pain bottled up inside.  Plant seeds of compassion, friendship, love and peace of mind because we are surrounded by weeds of anger, hate and hostility.  Too many children have died.

Learn and teach how to care and be fully human.

Learn and teach how to be human, for we have forgotten and/or have been blinded by our own ignorance and prejudice.

Two days ago, I learned of a soldier who went on a shooting rampage at a military base, and we ask why did this happen again?  Yesterday, I read a report of a school bus driver bullying one of her elementary school riders; and then had the entire bus riders join in in the making fun of this girl for crying. And once again, we ask why did this happen?  No amount of security bars and armed guards will protect us from ourselves thinking less of another person and then treating them less than how we expect to be treated.  It is time to stop asking why.  It is time to take action, learn and teach one another care and compassion.  Lead by positive example

How do you change mindsets?

How do you change mindsets?

I suspect that Pete Seeger’s name has not come up in books or courses on change management, leadership development, team engagement or how to become a change agent? Yet, here was one passionate man with a vision, a mission, goals he wanted to achieve and an instrument of change in his very hands.

Reflections on the Spirit of Christmas

Reflections on the Spirit of Christmas.  What does the spirit of Christmas mean to you?

“Silent Night”

Silent night, holy night

All is calm, all is bright

Round yon Virgin Mother and Child

Holy Infant so tender and mild

Sleep in heavenly peace

Sleep in heavenly peace

Silent night, holy night!

Shepherds quake at the sight

Glories stream from heaven afar

Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!

Christ, the Saviour is born

Christ, the Saviour is born

Silent night, holy night

Son of God, love’s pure light

Radiant beams from Thy holy face

With the dawn of redeeming grace

Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth

Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth”
