We will just make do with what we have.

 

The stove is broke,

There’s no money to fix it.

How will we make Thanksgiving dinner?

We will just make do with what we have.

 

She will go to a tenuous job each day,

And cope with an abusive boss.

Damned if she quits,

Damned if she stays.

She will have to make do with what she has.

 

They are a family of four waiting in line at the shelter for a prepared Thanksgiving meal.

They are surrounded by strangers, but among the many that have lost their jobs, lost their houses and lost their pride.

They don’t have much, but what they do have is each other.

They will have to make do with what they have.

 

She is a woman who has served her country, home at last.

She is just trying to find her place in time in civilian life,

For time moved on during her deployment.

She is surrounded by friends and family, yet, she feels tortured and solitary, by the sights and sounds of war march on in her mind.

She will have to make do with what she has.

 

He is a teenager sheltering in place with his mother and sister in low income housing.

Society passes judgment upon them…

Mother Nature didn’t discriminate when she tore up the East Coast.

They have gone without before.  Now, they will do more with less than less…

He will have to make do with what they have.

 

The sirens and missiles have silenced at the break of dawn.

Villages have been decimated,

Lives have been stolen,

Hearts have been ravaged,

With trepidation, the people will pick up the pieces of their lives and begin again.

In this moment, there is peace.

They will make do with what they have.

 

Will we continue to make peace with what we have?
